Ecological Impacts of Weed (Parthenium hysterophorus L.) Invasion in Saline Soil
نویسندگان
چکیده
Parthenium density and species richness were found to be more in non-invaded (N-I) sites as compared to invaded (I) sites of Jaunpur district. pH, OC and %N of the soil indicates that the plant survive naturally at higher level of salinity. In pot experiment, plant growth, proline content, TSS content, chlorophyll, N, P and K was not significantly affected up to 1% NaCl (w/w) over the control after 30 and 60DAS. BCF for parthenium plant was >1 up to 2% NaCl treatment. Bacterial population was more in rhizospheric soil then rhizoplane soil under NaCl after 30 and 60DAS, and indicates bacterialrhizoadaptation. Hence, the parthenium plant able to improve soil health and might be useful in the field of restoration ecology.

Invasion of Parthenium hysterophorus L. across land use types in Kirtipur Municipality
Parthenium hysterophorus, an invasive alien weed, is spreading rapidly across various land uses in Nepal. To understand how Parthenium is spreading across land uses at local scale, occurrence of this weed was recorded and its’ coverage in percent estimated along trails and road network at every 100 meter distance in Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu valley. In addition, vegetation sampling was...

Heavy metals and dyes are major contributors in contamination of water streams. These contaminants enter into our eco- system, thus posing a significant threat to public health, ecological equilibrium and environment. Thus a combined discharge of these contaminants results in water pollution with high chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand, color, particulate matter, suspended particl...
متن کاملEffectiveness of introduced biocontrol insects on the weed Parthenium hysterophorus (Asteraceae) in Australia.
Six species of insects and a rust fungus have been successfully established for biocontrol of the weed Parthenium hysterophorus L. in Queensland, Australia. Effectiveness of biocontrol insects was evaluated at two properties in Queensland during 1996-97 based on an exclusion experiment using insecticides. Parthenium-infested plots with and without biocontrol insects were sampled at monthly inte...

Cajanus cajan is an important pulse crop of India and Parthenium hysterophorus is an invasive weed of agroecosystem. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of leaf extract of Parthenium hysterophorus of different concentrations on the rate of seed germination and seedling growth of Cajanus cajan, and to know the allelopathic effect is the main cause of success of P.hysterophorus ...
